Bye Morris

I just found out that Morris Yarowsky has passed. No one told me about this and I had to read it on Martin's Blog. I feel out of the loop.

Morris was a lifelong learner, someone who would keep books open in his office, walked with the paper under his arm. He had extremely kind eyes; eyes that made you want to seriously enjoy these games we play on canvas. He would teach slowly, leaving ample room for all opinions. When commenting on art, his hands would speed up, his back become rigid and upright as if at every moment while he spoke something else caught his attention. He looked at things hard. He saw.

I had the great pleasure of Morris as one of my faculty advisors, sat in his office with that warm sweater smell. I got to see what it means to be a patient teacher. It was nice. It was more than nice.

One more Gaussian pieces of science.

I just put a Gaussian Blur on a photo of bigfoot. Gaussian is the father of modern statistics and scientific method of calculating data, so he should be placed on everything that we need to study. Kind of a one liner, but I'm still thinking about the options here.
